The following has been approved by the NJ Dare Devils Board.  We see this study as an opporunity to gain insight into the impact of ASHA/NJDD hockey on our players.  While the study will address only those make players age 12 - 16, the study results will be made available to all NJ Dare Devils parents who wish to review the results.

Megan Murnane is finishing her junior year in the Occupational Therapy Program at the University of New Hampshire.  She will be conducting a senior honors thesis study to be performed this coming summer (June - August 2011).  The purpose of the study is to explore the effects of structured team sports on the levels of social integration and activity repertoire for males ages 12-16 who have a documented learning challenge.

If you are interested in participating in the study, please contact Megan Murnane at mej74@unh.edu or 973-219-8817.  We encourage you to participate, but this would be strictly on a volunteer basis.  The results of the study will be confidential and will adhere strictly to individual privacy.

The time commitment for this study is 1-2 hours one day this summer.  The assessment involves two short questionnaires, completed by a parent, about social participation and activities.  The decision to participate in the study is solely at the discretion of the adolescents and their parents.  All information about the participants will be completely confidential and consent forms will be signed prior to beginning the research.  After completion of the study, parents will be given the opportunity to review all assessments and outcomes.
