The New Jersey Dare Devils (NJDD) was started in 2002 by the mother of a child seeking to find a physical outlet for her child with autism. Today there are 50 boys and girls ages 6 to 28, with various special needs, playing for the NJDD at the Richard Codey Arena in West Orange NJ.  Supporting these special hockey players are 10 adult coaches and over 60 junior/student coaches who are local youth hockey players helping to instruct the NJDD players in the intricacies of hockey.

NJ Dare Devils Junior Coach Donates $1,000 to the NJDD from Knit Hat-Making Project

James Bucknam is a 7th grader at Far Hills Country Day School.  His career as a hockey player was cut short after suffering two concussions in less than a year.

James’ love of the game of hockey brought him to the New Jersey Dare Devils, an organization of players with various special needs who, like James, love to play hockey.  James is now in his second year as a Junior Coach with The Dare Devils.

An Observation: The NJ Dare Devils

Last season, Karen Bonislawski started working with the NJ Dare Devils photographer, Frank Ingram, at NJDD games and practices.  This season Karen has taken a more active photographer's role in working with Frank to chronicle the NJDD games, practices, tournaments and events.

The following is Karen's view of the NJ Dare Devils Special Hockey Team.

We thank you Karen for your kind words and understanding of what the NJ Devils and Special Hockey is all about.
